Using open questions to encourage more information

Let's experiment: I asked a colleague about her holiday last year.

Question Answer
Where did you take your holiday last year? I went to Ibiza, a the old town of Ibiza actually, away from the madness of night clubs.
How did you get there? I flew from Heathrow. Expensive parking at the airport, but for me, the convenience was worth it.

Lots of information here!

You see, when we want to encourage the other person, an open question can do that. We are not pre-defining any limits for the anser so the other person can talk as much as she wants!

Open questions give the other person the green like to be expansive. Ask them when you want information, however you must be aware that some will want to give you lots of information!
